ReadVajrashakti Ventures is building India’s first privately run plant for defence-grade nitrocellulose, the base material of every conventional propellant.
Nitrocellulose is the base of every conventional propellant: small arms, artillery, tank, mortar, rocket and missile. There is no drop-in substitute in any fielded system.
India needs about 4,780 tonnes a year. Roughly 3,300 tonnes of it is not made at home, and the rest comes from a single public-sector source. The Ministry of Defence has placed nitrocellulose on the Positive Indigenisation List.
Line 1 alone covers about a quarter of India’s shortfall. The site is planned for three identical lines: 2,400 tonnes a year at full build, in military grades, for India and her allies.
Deterrence is only sovereign when its materials are.

Vajrashakti’s nitrocellulose process is developed in-house by our own process and engineering team, and reviewed by independent nitrocellulose and energetics experts in India and abroad.
Designed by our own team around proven continuous-nitration chemistry, with modern process control at every step.
Nitration, stabilisation, refining and release are reviewed by specialists from India and abroad before they are built.
Engineered around JSS 1376, with every lot tested and released against its controlling specification.
Each step is controlled and logged, so any lot can be traced back to its raw material.
Purified cotton linters are opened, dried and conditioned to a tight moisture limit before they meet acid.
Cellulose reacts with mixed nitric and sulphuric acid. Time, temperature and acid strength set the nitrogen content, and with it the grade.
Long boiling and repeated washing in stabilisation vessels remove residual acid, so the material stays stable in storage.
Conical refiners cut the fibres to the specified fineness. The pulp is then blended into large, uniform lots for batch-to-batch consistency.
Finished nitrocellulose is wetted to 30–35% with water, then packed in sealed, labelled drums for safe storage and transport.
In the chemical laboratory every lot is tested for nitrogen, solubility, viscosity and stability against its controlling specification, and released only when it passes. Records follow it from raw fibre to delivery.

Vajrashakti supplies military-grade nitrocellulose made to JSS 1376-10-2017 (Rev-III) to ordnance factories, defence public sector undertakings and licensed private propellant and ammunition makers in India.
For allied buyers in Europe and worldwide, grades can be supplied to US MIL-DTL-244 or the buyer’s own national specification and tested to NATO STANAG 4178 procedures, after qualification with each buyer.
Export supply follows the authorisations Indian export law requires.
